Responding to the Disaster in Haiti

Lifewater International is dismayed by the news of suffering and devastation in Haiti. We encourage you to respond with prayers and support for relief efforts.

RELIEF EFFORTS
Because Lifewater does not have in-country partners in Haiti, we are mobilizing our volunteer field trainers to serve with organizations that are well-established there and have a proven track record in disaster relief.

Through their Lifewater training, field trainers have been equipped with skills to respond effectively to the urgent water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) needs of the Haitian people. They have learned how to work in settings with very little infrastructure, to promote low-cost sustainable technologies, and to work in partnership with local people. Many of Lifewater’s field trainers are water or health professionals by trade.

Lifewater has established a field trainer mobilization fund that will be used to help with relief and rehabilitation in Haiti. Please consider giving in two ways:

  1. Make a five-dollar donation right now through your cell phone. Text DONATE to 85944, and five dollars will be added to your phone bill.
  2. Give a regular donation to Lifewater online or by check. Indicate in the comments section that you would like the money to go to the field trainer mobilization fund for work in Haiti.

REHABILITATION & DEVELOPMENT
Lifewater's focus as a WASH development organization is on creating sustainable water and sanitation systems for the long-term. Therefore, Lifewater is currently investigating options for contributing to sustained rehabilitation efforts after initial emergency efforts subside. Areas where Lifewater may be able to contribute are in water treatment and in sanitation for the disabled. Lifewater has worked in Haiti as recently as 2005 and will be glad to serve again in this nation when we find partners and contexts where our knowledge and resources will contribute to sustainable improvements in health and well-being.

May God bless you with a spirit of prayer, wisdom, and generosity as you respond to our world's suffering.
