In this country, we are fortunate to have nearly universal access to safe drinking water. Dedicate one day of your year—World Water Day (March 22)—to speak up for the need to conserve and share this precious resources.
Our goal is to raise $5,000 through $5 text donations and other gifts by World Water Day to install a well in Uganda.
Here is how you can help:
- On your cell phone, text WASH to 85944, then confirm "yes" to donate $5 right now.
- Click on the "Donate Now" button to the left and make a donation. Put "World Water Day well" in the comments section of the donation page, and we'll add you to the list of participants on the left.
- Encourage your friends and colleagues to wear Lifewater-provided World Water Day t-shirts and carry buckets, jugs, or yellow jerry cans—full or partially full of water— along with other key figures around the nation. During the day, invite others to lift the containers to see what millions carry for miles every day. If you are unable to carry heavy items, simply share why you are carrying the container. Signs (download below) on the containers will invite people to make a $5 donation to Lifewater International for the well in Uganda by using their cell phones to text WASH to 85944.
- Consider hosting a WaterWalk , where you invite people to carry containers full of water over a distance to honor those who do so every day. Have participants collect sponsorships in the form of $5 cell phone donations (WASH to 85944). See lifewater.org/waterwalk.aspx for materials and more information.
- Make sure you contact Lifewater Interational so that we can provide you with the jerry cans, tshirts, and other items you need for World Water Day. Also let us know where we can document your activities and/or submit press releases.
After World Water Day, visit this site to see if we have met our goal and raised $5,000 for a well in Uganda. Groups that have participated will be acknowledged on the site.
Thank you for joining us in the effort to ensure that all people have access to safe drinking water. We’ll see you on World Water Day!
